Within Saxion University of Applied Sciences (Deventer, Netherlands) a group of Archaeology students and staff took the initiative to set up an exchange project with the Vindolanda Charitable Trust in the UK. As a first step a group of 10 students (accompanied by their Roman Archaeology Lecturer) excavated on the site of the Roman fort at Vindolanda, for several weeks, alongside the Vindolanda team and other international students and volunteers. In this way these students with a keen interest in Roman frontier archaeologists were able to gain practical insights in excavation techniques and site circumstances in very different surroundings as they are used to in the Netherlands.

KEWF was happy to help with their travel and accommodation costs.

In the near future the Vindolanda Trust, Saxion University an KEWF hope to be able to expand cooperation also on mutual research interests.
